Concern For The Future

I getting a bit concerned about what the future may hold. Not the long term future. I’m not spending a lot of time dwelling on that. So it’s not interest rates or inflation or the state of the world. All that is plenty of cause for concern. But something else has been getting my attention.

Last night I noticed a person out with a ladder at around dusk. He was heading up to deal with a hornet’s nest. He had waited until it was getting dark, so all the hornets would be home, watching TV or whatever they do at that time of the evening, and was going to hit them with some spray, then come back today and take the nest down.

This was not a small nest. In fact, it was huge. And it was attached to the outside of a second story dormer window. That’s the part that got my attention. It was up high.

While we were talking, I happened to mention there was another right above my head. Yet another large hornets’ nest hanging from a tree branch this time, but still a good fifteen feet off the ground.

I haven’t seen a lot of nests this year, but seeing two fairly large nests, built fairly high off the ground is cause for concern.

You know what they say. Hornets and wasps building nest high off the ground means we could be in for a lot of snow this winter. I hoping the little guys are a bit off on their height estimates, because fifteen feet of more of snow is not something I want to deal with. In fact, I really hope their wrong.

But just in case, maybe I should start working out. Doing a few exercises to strengthen my arms and back. If the hornets and wasps are right we could be in for a rough winter.
