A conservancy group is asking people if they are an Arm Chair Advocate or a Next Level Naturalist in a new nation-wide program aimed to get people outside.
The Nature Quiz, a new program run by the Nature Conservancy of Canada, asks participants six questions designed to measure their relationship with nature, giving them what is called a Nature Score.
Andrew Holland, National Media Relations Director for NCC, says participants can take their score, and sign up to the second half of the program called Nature Coach.
“What the Nature Coach is, is every week you get an email encouraging you to spend time outdoors,” he said, “It gives you different ideas, tips and ways you can learn about nature and the outdoors, and just things you can do to get outside.”
The NCC have launched the program to encourage people to put down their devices and get outside while the weather is still nice. It’s all part of their push to get people outside, as the benefits of the outdoors to people’s physical and mental health are often ignored lately.
“66 per cent of Canadians spend less time outdoors compared to when they were younger,” said Holland, “Even though 87% of people admitted at the same time they feel better, happier and healthier when they spend time outdoors.”
Holland says the program is completely free, and is used to promote outdoor activities and exploration, whether it be on NCC lands or other parks and trails.
The quiz can be found at NatureQuiz.ca.
