I heard the other day that sales of cookbooks went up the last two years or so because of the pandemic.
That kind of surprised me because recipes are so easy to find on the internet.
I wish I had the family recipes so I could recreate those meals exactly as I remember them as a kid.
In our family, mom hated to cook and did the same dozen meals in rotation.
Dad was in the Navy and when he’d come back from a tour of a foreign country he brought recipes for the foods he’d tried while there.
He spent a year in England so my brother and I got to try Shepherd’s Pie, Yorkshire Pudding, Black Pudding and Cornish Pasties.
At Christmas we had plum pudding with hard sauce.
One summer his ship was moored beside a cruiser from the Indian navy.
We learned how hot food could be as Dad cooked up Indian curries served with papadams.
Do you still cook with a cook book, the internet or perhaps some old family recipes scribbled down on a piece of paper?
