It’s easy to cope with self-isolation with practical things to occupy your time, but what about the space that it rents in your head?
That’s a more difficult proposition.
I do two things to cope. First of all, Karen likes to put CNN or CBC Newsworld on in the background. I can’t stand it. So we compromise. I wear headphones and listen to music in the living room or play videogames, then I ask her for a break from it. I get it. Some people find the 24 hour news coverage comforting but I don’t. A steady diet of Coronavirus pandemic news can’t be good for anyone.
The other thing I do to cope is play a mental mind game involving the calendar. I track the last time I was in a busy store where I might have come into contact with Coronavirus and then count six days. If no symptoms by the sixth day I enjoy my day and all the following days worry-free until my next essential trip to the store. Am I deluding myself? Possibly. But it works for me.
Please share any other coping methods you use to get through the worry about Coronavirus.
