A labour disruption at Dalhousie University has come to an end after the university’s board of governors and the Dalhousie Faculty Association (DFA) announced a joint agreement early Tuesday morning.
The agreement still requires ratification by DFA members and the board, but both sides confirmed they have agreed to end the lockout that began on August 20.
No details of the deal have been released.
In their statement, the university and faculty association said the date for classes to resume will be confirmed later Tuesday.
They added that more information on revised fall term dates, the exam schedule, fall break, and academic deadlines will follow.
The labour disruption lasted nearly four weeks, leaving students out of class during the start of the semester.
The Dalhousie Student Union noted that every week of cancelled classes represented roughly seven per cent of the semester.
The faculty association had been locked out following unsuccessful contract negotiations, with major disputes centring around salary, benefits, and workload.
