D’Entremont Wins Federal Conservative Nomination

Progressive Conservative MLA Chris d’Entremont won the federal nomination as the Conservative Party candidate for the riding of West Nova.

He said he won the Saturday night’s nomination on the first ballot against contenders Dan Mullen and Hannah Dawson-Murphy, however the total numbers are not released.

D’entremont says now it’s about making sure a nomination process is started up here in Argyle-Barrington so we an at least have a candidate ready to go whenever the Premier calls a byelection.

“I can stay on as an MLA for a little bit. I just want to make sure the representation continues because the Premier takes about 6 months to call a byelection.”

He says the legal opinion is now clear where we have the Legislative Council go back and have a look at our House of Assembly Act which dictates these rules and look at how they deal with elections Canada.

“Basically what they say is that when we submit our documentation to Elections Canada and become the nominated candidate in a riding, we then have to resign or then cease to be the seated member in that constituency. So, there’s a little bit of leeway and I just want to make sure we have everything set up so the people of Argyle-Barrington don’t go without good representation.”

PC MLA’s Alfie MacLeod and Eddie Orrell also plan to run in the upcoming federal election. Former NDP MLA Lenore Zann is still sitting as an independent and is looking for the federal Liberal nomination in Cumberland-Colchester.
