DFO arrests 39 for elver poaching in N.S. since early-March

More elver poaching arrests in southwest Nova Scotia.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans says 39 people have been arrested since March 6th.

Eleven vehicles, dozens of nets, equipment, weapons and 8.8 kilograms of elver were seized.

The federal minister decided not to open the lucrative fishery this year over concerns of violence on the rivers.

DFO asks anyone who suspects someone of unauthorized fishing should contact their local Conservation and Protection detachment.
