Disney + Production Delayed In Shelburne

Those excited to see a movie production in Shelburne will have to wait a bit longer.

Production on the Disney + series ‘Washington Black’ starring Sterling K. Brown is already underway in Eastern Nova Scotia.

Mayor of the Town of Shelburne Harold Locke says the production company originally planned to film in the town.

“The latest that we’ve been informed is that they’re going to do some filming in Birchtown and the Islands Provincial Park, and see where it goes from there. The movie business is an ongoing process, they change plans on a daily basis,” says Locke.

Locke says filming in those areas will begin in late May or early June.

He says there will be some economic spinoff, but not as much as originally hoped.

“We were quite pleased to have the initial contact, and we wish we could have had more done in the town, but that’s the movie business.”

In January, it was announced that the production company would start filming in Shelburne in March.
