A scary afternoon for a pooch in Bridgewater.
Firefighters from Bridgewater, Northfield and Hebbville and the Bridgewater Police Service were alerted to an ice rescue in the LaHave River after a shepherd mix dog ran out onto it.
The dog could be heard barking from King and LaHave Streets.
Firefighters tried to enter the river but the action seemed to startle the dog.

Eventually after roughly an hour, the dog got to shore safely on its own.

The canine then ran up a hill on the King Street side of the river to its owner.
Police Sergeant Jerome Richard says the dog was taken to the veterinarian to be looked at.
