Two dead after two car crashes in Antigonish County

Two men are dead and three others are seriously injured after two separate car crashes on Thursday.

At about 6:30 a.m., a Hyundai Tucson and Hyundai Accent were travelling in opposite directions on Highway 104, near Afton, when they hit head-on, according to a news release.

The driver, of the Accent, a 53-year-old Monastery man, died at the scene.

The and passenger of the Tucson, a 70-eyar-old man and a 69-year-old woman, both from Frankville, suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital.

At about 10:45 a.m., police say a Nissan Kicks and a Nissan Pathfinder were travelling in opposite directions, near Havre Boucher, when the two vehicles hit head-on.

A 32-year-old from Kings County, the driver of the Kicks, died at the scene.

RCMP say the driver of the Pathfinder suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

Highway 104 was closed for several hours but since reopened.

The investigations continue.
