Elvers, equipment seized at suspected Yarmouth holding facility

A major elver seizure in Yarmouth County.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans says officers conducted a search warrant at a suspected holding facility on May 1.

Three people were arrested violations of the Fisheries Act.

In total, over 28 kilograms of elver, along with four large holding tanks and other equipment were seized.

DFO says the investigation is ongoing.

The elver season did not open this year because the federal minister is worried about conservation and safety of officers.

But poaching of the lucrative baby eels has continued.
