Events to mark 75 years of Cape Sable Island Causeway

It’s the 75th anniversary of the Cape Sable Island Causeway.

The Causeway between the island and Barrington was opened in 1949, it cost around $600,000 to build.

Former Premier Angus L. MacDonald was instrumental in the Causeway’s construction, which changed the lives of residents forever.

A celebration is planned for Monday at 10 a.m. at Island View Park.

There will be guest speakers and music, and a new lobster sculpture will be unveiled.

Music will continue throughout the day, you can also take part in a cardboard boat regatta and mackerel derby.
