I came across this database a few years ago and have spent many hours looking up a bunch of place names!

Nova Scotia has so many unique community names and stories behind them. The Nova Scotia Archives has a database where you can look up most place names and find the origin behind them! Be warned these files were written quite a while ago so some of the language is not appropriate anymore.
