There’s a guy in California with an interesting hobby – he collects houseplants. He estimates he’s spent over $5,000 on 300 plus houseplants. He spends hours looking over his collection, repotting them, and posting pictures and videos to social media. Hey! If it makes him happy and contented then more power to the man and his hobby.
I’m sure family members may not understand someone’s devotion to their hobby, especially the money spent on their favourite leisure activity, but to the person caught up in the activity it brings joy and pleasure, and it’s hard to put a price on that.
Thankfully my hobby these days is collecting digital videogames, which take up no real space other than terabytes of computer storage space. But if I had the room, and the approval of my wife Karen I would collect computers. As a kid I enjoyed the Tandy Coco, the Commodore 64, the Vic-20 and others and wish I could display them but there’s one more problem than space – where am I going to find those old tube monitors to run them? Most of those tube monitors have lost their vacuum and no longer work, and I don’t think anyone’s been making new ones in decades.
What’s your hobby and is it expensive? Or, if money was no problem what hobby would you take up?
