West Hants RCMP responded to a fatal drowning along the New Ross Road in Leminster on Wednesday.
RCMP and EHS were called to the scene around 3:20 p.m., upon arrival they learned that a 59-year-old woman had been lounging in some nearby water and at one point came into distress.
A man known to the woman attempted to rescue her and contact police, however, the woman was later declared dead at the scene.
The case is now under investigation by the provincial medical examiner’s office.
