Feds auditing P.E.I. ferry after year of delays, interruptions

The federal government is going to investigate the P.E.I. ferry.

Transport Minister Anita Anand says she requested the audit after the ferry, called the MV Holiday Island, had an unacceptable year.

The ferry was plagued with several delays and interruptions over the year.

Anand says people in P.E.I. and Nova Scotia need a ferry they can rely on.

She says the audit will help them know how to prevent further safety issues and guarantee safe operations.

Contractors can apply to do the audit until midday February 6th.

A new ferry arrived in Canada on Sunday, which will replace the old one. The MV Northumberland will temporarily replace the MV Holiday Island, according to a news release from the federal government.

The new ferry is being refit before it finally takes over.

It should be ready to go for the start of the 2025 operating season.
