UPDATED: Fire At Clyde River Church, Highway Re-Opened

The steeple of the St. Matthew’s United Church in Clyde River was on fire this morning.

Fire departments responded after lightning struck the building off Highway 103 in Shelburne County.

The highway has just re-opened, it was closed from Exit 28 in Clyde River to Exit 29 in Barrington.

Shelburne Fire Chief Darrell Locke says the fire is contained to the steeple.

“There will be serious water damage, but the fire itself was confined to just the steeple area, thanks to the good work of our firefighters and our friends from the Barrington area,” said Locke.

RCMP and the Department of Transportation are also on scene.
