Fire Departments, Other Medical First Response Agencies Restricted From Assisting On Medical Calls

Fire departments will no longer be responding to some calls alongside EHS due to concerns around Covid-19.

In a release, Emergency Health Services have temporarily moved all Medical First Response agencies to a modified level 5 response model.

This new model will restrict fire departments from responding to medical calls unless they involve a motor vehicle collision or a difficult extraction of a patient, and will not respond to patients who have screened in as possible, presumed or confirmed for Covid-19.

In the release, EHS officials says the restrictions are being put in place to protect both the MFR community and the public from the continued spread of Covid-19, something they are re-evaluating every day.

EHS says the restrictions will be removed once the Covid-19 pandemic begins to decrease.
