A province wide 50/50 draw that has been helping fire departments stay afloat amid the pandemic is being praised by a local fire chief .
The Hebb’s Cross Fire Department is one of many departments that have been forced to cancel fundraising events due to COVID-19, including their Fireman’s Breakfast.
Donald Llewellyn, Fire Chief for the Hebb’s Cross Fire Department said without funds raised by the Firefighters 50/50, it would be extremely difficult to stay afloat.
“To do the service that we do for our community and surrounding areas has a lot to do with fundraising,” said Llewellyn. “Without the cash flow it’s pretty much impossible.”
He said that the funds raised so far have allowed his department to purchase a new furnace and new ice rescue equipment.
“The more people that buy tickets, the more it’s going to help so I encourage everybody that wants to support our department, or any department to please check out the 50/50 draw,” said Llewellyn.
He says a percentage of money from every ticket sold will directly benefit the fire department of your choice.
