Yesterday was not really the day we expected. Sure, there were a few flurries in the forecast. But those flurries seemed to go on a bit longer and build up a bit more than we thought they might.
As a result, garage’s all over the area had their phones ringing off the hook with people suddenly in a hurry to get their snow tires put on. And I’m pretty I wasn’t the only one that was not wearing the right footwear and didn’t have things like gloves handy.
As I left work, I was not exactly happy to be standing in the snow wearing my sneakers, brushing the snow off my car while trying to keep my hands warm. I was not happy.
That changed when I got home. When I got there, a nice hot bowl of stew was waiting for me.
Usually, we tend to throw together fairly quick meals, so I wasn’t expecting stew. It’s not like I’m a huge fan, but it seemed to be the perfect meal for someone with cold, wet feet and hands. It really hit the spot.
It could also have been a pot of chili. Or maybe a steaming bowl of homemade soup. Any of those things would have been a good choice to go along with sloppy, wet snow. But a meal built to warm a person from the inside out seemed like a very good choice.
I probably ate too much. And I shouldn’t have had a second dumpling. But it’s not something that happens every day. And it sure seemed to be the right meal at the right time. At least as far as I was concerned.
