Telephone scammers really need to work on something new. My phone rang this morning. I answered, and was told by a recorded voice that charges had been made on my Visa.
Now, I do have a Visa, but I have kept the credit limit very low on purpose. And the amounts they told me on the phone would have put it beyond that limit. So I figure if Visa let some random person put more on my card than they would be willing to let me put on it, that’s on them. They should know better.
I also know it’s a scam.
I was supposed to call them back, give them my information and then they really could run up my credit card. Nope. Not falling for that one.
I don’t really enjoy the robo-call scams. They aren’t as much fun. Real people are far more entertaining. And it’s always fun to see what kind of reaction you can get from people.
I think the people at “windows technical support” have given up on me. Many times I have told them that my windows really are having problems. For one, they really need to be cleaned. Especially the ones on the second floor. I can’t get up that high these days, and it would be really great if they could send someone by to clean my windows. After they try for a while to convince me it is the computer program and not the glass in my house they are calling about and my continuing to misunderstand them, they usually hang up. But it can be fun for a while.
And the C.R.A. people seem to get really confused after they tell me they are sending police out to arrest me. Generally because I keep asking if they know who will be coming from the local detachment, so I know whether or not to put on tea or coffee for them and what kind of cookies they might like. My lack of concern with my looming incarceration seems to upset them.
Some times, I just try to have a conversation. Ask them what it’s like where they are, if they like it there. Just a nice little chat.
There are also times I have asked if their mother is proud of their choice of profession, since being a thief isn’t really a great career choice in a lot of cultures. Although that one tends to really upset them. I have been yelled at and hung up on many times for that one.
But I really wish they would just drop the robo-calls. I’m not about to fall for any of them, but the live calls are are much more fun to play with.
Although I am a bit concerned about the captain. He hasn’t called for years. I kind of missing hearing that ship’s horn when I pick up the phone. Hope he’s okay. Although he’s probably just been grounded. What with the whole Covid thing.
