Get A Pet – Live Longer

Sometimes the news of the day can really bring you down – court cases, deadly viruses, asteroids, that crazy guy south of us – all kinds of downers. Then I turn away from the screen and see my rescue dog Misty looking for some attention or one of our 3 rescue cats doing something kooky and I forget about all the craziness in the world.

Animal shelters have a lot of animals that need forever homes and before you start listing why you can’t have a dog or a cat let me make the case that you would be doing yourself a favour by making a new furry friend.

Scientists say that having a pet will make you healthier and live longer:

Dogs keep you moving even if you only walk them a couple of times a week

Owning a pet lowers high cholesterol and drops the risk of a heart attack.

Interacting with pets will stimulate your mental acuity.

Stroking your cat or petting your dog will lower your pulse rate.

Owning a pet keeps the elderly more engaged with living.

Dog owners live longer than people without pets.

So, do yourself a solid and check out that animal shelter today!
