Getting To Crunch Time

Every year it seems like the same thing. We try to get an early start, then keep adding items to the list until we finally just give up and say “this thing is happening”.

That’s the way Christmas usually works around my place. We never really get finished. We just run out of time.

This year seems a bit better than normal. We made our lists and checked them twice. We haven’t spent a lot of extra time just browsing. We have concentrated on the list and tried to stick as close as possible.

Of course, every year there are things that can’t be found. Those are the things we make a half hearted attempt, but we know they aren’t likely to be found. Some years you may get lucky. But every year there are those things that aren’t going to be available. Especially when it comes to toys. After a while you just know there are things that can’t be found. Like back in the 80s when I scoured most of Eastern Canada looking for Ninja turtles. And we won’t even talk about Cabbage Patch Kids or Furbys.

Thankfully, we have gotten a bit beyond the hot toy craze in our lives. Which makes shopping a lot less stressful this time of year. But as organized as we might try be each year, there always items that end up being last minute items for one reason or another.

Christmas still comes on the same day every year and it seems to work out no matter what, whether we’re ready or not.

Although this year, I think we’re close. But I’ve become convinced you’re never really finished. At some point you just quit running around and enjoy the season.
