Golfing for Charity a Team Effort

Good friends Robert Stevens, Tony Cohoon, Rev. Joe Green and Gary Russell teamed up together to raise money for some local charities, and they did it playing something they love.

Golf.

Organizer Robert Stevens says he was watching something on the Christmas Daddies and it compelled him to do something to help out charities in the community. He called up his friends, and they were on board with his plan immediately.

They were able to organize a silent auction with 21 items up for grabs and hole sponsors to hold the Golf 4 Charity event. Held July 6 at the Chester Golf Club, they played 100 holes of golf in a single day.

“We started at 5:10 in the morning and finished at 6:40 that night. It was raining pretty hard that day so there weren’t a lot of people out-it was smooth sailing for us,” he said.

By the end of the day they had raised $12,095 which they decided to split between four charities-SHAID Tree Animal Shelter, Christmas Daddies, Prostate Cancer Research, and the Lighthouse Food Bank.

Each organization received a cheque for $3,023.75.

Stevens says he was amazed at the generosity of people who made donations.

“In the times we have today with people not working because of COVID, a lot of businesses are hurting and there were very few people who said they couldn’t afford it. The rest said you are doing a great thing, let us help you out.”
