The provincial government paved a section of the 103 near Danesville a couple weeks ago. Honestly, they did a great job and it went far quicker than I thought possible. They even cleared along the edge of the highway through this section, which is also a great idea. That way, deers and bears can’t sneak up on you when you’re driving down the highway.
You have to be careful of the deers and bears. Other animals too, but deers and bears in particular are very likely to leave a mark if you hit them with your car at highway speed. So having the edges of the highway cleared back a ways is a good thing. (Strangely, this is also the same section of highway where I once saw a rather angry beaver standing in the exact center of the highway yelling at passing cars. I’m pretty sure a beaver would leave a mark, too, if you hit him, but you don’t often get the chance.)
But the thing that sort of has me scratching my head is the fact they cleared back from the edge of the highway to the very edge of where a power line runs through. Not past the power line. Just to the power line. The trees along the edge are actually still poking through the power line in some areas.
You would maybe think trees growing up through a power line could cause a problem at some time in the future. Maybe they should be trimmed back a bit?
I know. The people who look after the power lines and the people who look after the edges of the highway are two completely different groups of people, but maybe they could work together on some things?
I also realize that a big machine the size of an excavator with a grinder on the business end probably isn’t what you want to be working around a power line.
But it just makes you think that maybe a little cooperation could go a long ways.
