Haley Irwin Announces Retirement

Thunder Bay’s Haley Irwin officially announced her retirement from international competition with Canada’s National Women’s Team.

The two-time Olympic gold medallist tells us she made the decision after taking a year off to reassess her future

“I went through a bit of a check list you know mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually and where I was at and I came to the conclusion I was ready to move on,” confesses Irwin

The 31 year old does not know what she will be doing now that she’s retired but believes hockey will always be a part of her life in some way.

Irwin made her debut with the national team program in 2009, winning back-to-back gold medals at the Olympic Winter Games in 2010 in Vancouver and 2014 in Sochi, Russia, adding a silver medal in 2018 in PyeongChang, South Korea.

She retires among the top 20 all-time scorers with Canada’s National Women’s Team, amassing 80 points 38 goals, 42 assists in 108 games.

Irwin currently resides in Toronto.
