Halifax Tides keeper retires from pro soccer after season-ending injury

Erin McLeod, the keeper for the Halifax Tides and one of the most experienced goalkeepers in Canada, is retiring from pro soccer after an injury ended her season.

She’s played professionally for more than two decades, won two medals in the Olympics, and been with more than 11 clubs across Canada, the United States, Germany, Sweden and Iceland.

She signed with the Tides in October of 2024, returning to Halifax to be closer to her family, sister and wife.

McLeod was also the first player to sign with the team.

“McLeod has been more than a goalkeeper, she’s been a cornerstone of the club’s identity, a leader on and off the pitch, and a driving force in shaping the inaugural season of the Northern Super League,” the team wrote in a news release.

The Tides will honour her with a special post-match ceremony following their home game on Sept. 27 at 3 p.m.
