A group of Unions representing some 3500 health support workers at Nova Scotia Health and the IWK Health Centre reached a tentative contract agreement Tuesday.
An alliance of unions called the health support bargaining unit, which includes Unifor, CUPE and the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union, advocates for workers in more than 60 different roles, including environmental, dietary and maintenance staff.
“The tentative agreement includes a fair wage package, which recognizes some of the lowest paid classifications in health care, improvements in shift and weekend premiums and improvements in language and seniority protection,” the bargaining unit wrote in a news release.
The tentative deal would see changes to wages, improvements in shift and weekend premiums and improvements in language and seniority protection.
Union Members haven’t been presented with the specifics of the deal yet, but the bargaining committee is recommending they accept.
The bargaining process began in December. After an agreement couldn’t be reached in May, the groups agreed to have a conciliation officer appointed.
Three days of talks took place – July 19, July 28 and August 15 – before a deal was reached.
