Nova Scotians can expect a wet stretch of weather this weekend as a low-pressure system moves through the region.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Ian Hubbard says rain will start over southwestern parts of the province late Saturday and spread eastward during the evening. “We’re going to see a wet Saturday night into Sunday,” Hubbard explained. “Sunday’s not looking great either — there’s still going to be quite a bit of rain around, particularly along the Atlantic coast.”
Areas along the Atlantic coast, from Digby through Halifax and into Cape Breton, are expected to see the most rain. Hubbard says rainfall totals could reach or exceed 50 millimetres in some locations — the threshold where rainfall warnings are typically issued. He noted that special weather statements or warnings could be issued later Friday or Saturday as forecasts become more precise.
Along with the rain, coastal areas can expect some gusty winds Saturday night into Sunday morning. Wind gusts could reach 70 to 80 kilometres per hour in some spots, but widespread wind warnings are not anticipated at this time.
Conditions are expected to remain unsettled into Monday, before a shift toward warmer and drier weather begins. “Probably by Tuesday, we’re going to see a little bit of a trend where some warmer air is on the way,” Hubbard said. Double-digit daytime highs are forecast for much of the province by midweek.
