Here’s Everything That Was Happening Last Time The Jays Went To The World Series!

The year was 1993 and it was a big one for Canada!
Most memorable today? It was the last time the Blue Jays went all the way!
But that wasn’t the only headline — here’s what else was happening across the country when the Jays were on top of the world.

  • Kim Campbell briefly served as Canada’s first female Prime Minister from June to November 1993, succeeding Brian Mulroney.

  • Jean Chrétien and the Liberal Party won a landslide victory in October 1993, beginning a decade-long tenure.

  • The internet was just beginning to enter Canadian homes. Most people still used dial-up modems and floppy disks.

  • The Montreal Canadiens had just won the Stanley Cup in June 1993 — the last Canadian team to do so.

  • NAFTA was signed in 1992 and came into effect in 1994, reshaping trade between Canada, the U.S., and Mexico.

  • Due South premiered in 1994, but Canadian TV in 1993 featured shows like Street Legal and The Kids in the Hall.

  • Ben Holmes has lived on the South Shore of Nova Scotia for most of his life and has a deep passion for the culture and community of Nova Scotia and the Maritimes. He believes strongly in the importance of radio and other local media, and the role they play in keeping communities informed, connected, and entertained.
He is the host of “Breakfast With Ben” on CKBW in Bridgewater. When he is not talking, at least not into a microphone, Ben enjoys spending time outdoors, cycling, watching films, taking road trips, and being around family and friends.
