Hope for Wildlife is in need of volunteers, specifically on the South Shore.
Drivers are needed to transport injured and orphaned wildlife from the area to the rehab facility in Seaforth.
Founder and Director, Hope Swinimer said you don’t have to have any experience with wild animals to get involved.
“You don’t need to start out with a bald eagle or fawn,” said Swinimer. “You can start really easily and build on your comfort level as time goes on.”
She added that right now is their busiest time of year.
Generally this time of year, Hope for Wildlife helps around 60 animals per day but so far this month, there have been multiple occasions that they have seen over one hundred animals in a single day.
Swinimer says the help of dedicated volunteer makes helping these wild animals possible.
“Having those volunteers that really want to help makes a big difference between staying open and not being able to do what we do.” Swinimer explained.
She says right now, their largest need for drivers is on the south shore and anyone interested in becoming a volunteer can click HERE.
Swinimer added that she plans to set up a drop off triage location on the South Shore to stabilize, hydrate, warm up, and even give pain medication to animals before continuing on the long dive to the rehabilitation facility.
She said she hopes to start the process of searching for a location in the Bridgewater or Liverpool area to set up the drop off triage sometime in the fall.
