Houston says N.S. ready to retaliate against U.S. tariffs

Premier Tim Houston says trade talks between Canada and the U.S. have been a ‘long and difficult road.’

Following news of another tariff increase by U.S. president Donald Trump (to 35 percent on some goods,) Houston says there was hope a deal could be reached by August 1.

At the same time, he says he knew it would be incredibly difficult.

He thanked Prime Minister Mark Carney and his team for their work on the file.

Houston also says he won’t hesitate to implement retaliatory measures again if needed.

He remains hopeful a deal can be reached.
