How Do You Quit Being A Prince?

It seems like a strange question, but I’ve been thinking about it for a while.

I can understand how Prince Harry would want to be a regular person. Being in the spotlight all the time can’t be easy. Many of us would think it would be a pretty sweet life, but there are some big downsides. Constantly being under the microscope would be the big one.

But this is not a choice any of us mere mortals can make. You don’t choose to be a prince. It’s not a career choice that ever came up for me. No school guidance counselor ever sat me down and said it was even a slight possibility it could happen. You have to be born into it.

So how do you just stop being something you were born to be? You can resign the duties, but you will still be that person.

That’s the part I have trouble with. Harry can stop with the royal duties, but he will always be who he is. He can become financially independent. He is a helicopter pilot, amoung other things, so he does have skills. That part can work out, and I admire him for giving it a try.

But there will probably still be people with cameras following his every move, because… he’s still Harry.

So the thing he would really like to leave behind probably won’t happen.

I really hope he does make this work. And if he’s looking for a buddy to go fishing on the weekend… I can probably clear my schedule.
