What is it, the 3rd price hike in a row the last few weeks at the pumps?
It’s time to fight back.
The number one thing I do when gas prices get high is I slow down. So I’m going to apologize to all those people behind me on the 103 for going the speed limit.
Let’s be honest , most of us do 5 to 10 kilometres an hour over the speed limit on the 103. But now, I’m doing exactly the speed limit on my way to and from work – half the trip is at 90 kms an hour and the other half is 100. I really notice the fuel savings when I do that. Sometimes I get an extra day before I have to fill up when I do that.
Next, I check the trunk for any unnecessary things I might be carting around, and take them out. A lighter car gets better fuel mileage.
But, really, the biggest thing we can do is limit the amount of driving. Don’t make special trips to the stores on the weekend, just make sure you stop in on your way home from work and pick up what you need.
One other thing to try is to pretend that there is an egg between your foot and the gas pedal so that when you pull away from a light or stop sign, you’re trying not to break the egg. If you do a lot of stop and go town driving the gas savings add up quickly.
