How To Make Your Own Hand Sanitizer And Wipes

Yesterday when I checked there were plenty of bottles of hand sanitizer on the store shelves, but if we do get a run on them in the days ahead, here’s how to make your own.

The active ingredient in hand sanitizer is alcohol, and experts recommend a 60 per cent strength. You can use ethyl alcohol or the more readily available isopropyl (rubbing alcohol) which tends to come in a 90 to 91 % strength. Mix 2/3 cup rubbing alcohol with either 1/3 cup water or aloe vera gel. Optionally you can add a couple of drops of your favourite essential oil. Put in toiletry bottle. Done. This should be about 60.66 per cent strength if you bought the 91 per cent rubbing alcohol.

For wipes, just make the above solution with water not gel and moisten a paper towel.
