Don’t you hate it. You hear something and you’re sure you know who it is, but you can’t quite place it. Some ideas come, but then you know they don’t fit… but you still are sure you know.
That’s been me over the past few weeks. Every time I see one of those Province of Nova Scotia ads with someone singing Somewhere Over The Rainbow. The voice seem familiar. I’ve heard it before. But where? Who?
I kept trying to figure it out. Sure it would come to me. I like the song, and there has been no shortage of great versions over the years. I’m a big fan of Israel Kamakawiwoʻole’s version that includes What A Wonderful World. A few years ago that version was everywhere. And the Wizard of Oz is certainly a classic with the Judy Garland version. There is just something relaxing and calming about the song.
But who was singing this particular version?
Surely it was a Nova Scotian artist… but who?
Once again, Google was my friend. I finally broke down and quit trying to figure it out on my own. The answer would have to be in the Google machine somewhere.
It was.
And the answer was a bit of a surprise. Not only a Nova Scotian artist, but a South Shore artist. Jennah Barry!
So now I know. It’s a great version of the song. Honestly, I can’t really say if the ad will have the desired effect and find me travelling around Nova Scotia a lot this summer, but I love to hear the song.
Great job Jennah!
