I Survived Disco – Barely

The late seventies and early eighties gave us disco. It hit in a big way then disappeared overnight in the early eighties unless you travelled to Europe where it hung on for another ten years.

Even the Rolling Stones gave in to disco and released “Miss You”, a decision that almost broke up the band.

A lot of the music was really good – the Bee Gees and others from Saturday Night Fever, classics like I Love The Night Life, I Will Survive, Born To Be Alive, and numerous hits from Donna Summer and Boney M.

But the fashions were the worst – too much satin and spandex and polyester along with those ultra wide collar shirts unbuttoned down to your navel.

Admittedly I resisted disco when it first came out, but it eventually wore me down and the songs were great to dance to, so who am I to spoil the party? But I breathed a sigh of relief when the stuff disappeared almost overnight and rock and roll came back.

What was your favourite disco song?
