It’s been a big hit. In fact, it sold out and has been hard to find. Although I’m still trying to figure out why people want to find it. Mac and cheese ice cream. It’s real.
A small ice cream maker in the U.S. teamed up with Kraft to come up with a mac and cheese flavoured ice cream. I suspect they were not expecting it to be as big as it became. Stocks sold out quickly, and people have been trying to find it.
Now, I like mac and cheese. If I had a million dollars, I would probably buy me some Kraft dinner, just like the song says. Yes, more money just means I would eat more of it. But I’m not convinced I would want my ice cream to taste that way.
People have been coming up with weird ice cream flavours for many years. In fact, mac and cheese ice cream seems pretty normal in many ways. There are several different variations of hot peppers in ice cream. Not my idea of why I want to eat ice cream, but some people seem to like it. And of course, there are different tastes around different parts of the world. Flavours like squid, octopus, cow tongue and horse flesh that are available in different places.
There are also flavours like foie gras, bourbon and corn flake, lobster and creole tomato. Really, the only limits to the flavours of ice cream seem to be our imaginations.
But just because we can do something, should we?
Maybe I’m just boring, but I’ll stick with the traditional ice cream flavours. You know… vanilla, chocolate, maybe even get real crazy and go for grapenut. (What exactly are grapenuts?) Or things that seem a natural fit to go with cream, like fruit.
Although, mac and cheese is pretty tasty. Maybe if I tried the ice cream with a side of dijon ketchup.
