I tried to expand that back yard bird list. I spent some time in the back yard on Saturday, which was a bit more on the damp side then I had hoped. Sunday wasn’t much better. Dryer, yes, but that wind.
I think most of the birds just stayed home on Saturday. I was trying to get of on the Big Day and report my sightings to eBird, which I did. I just didn’t have much to report. Two black capped chickadees, one white breasted nuthatch, three crows that I swear were laughing at me and a cardinal. There is always a cardinal in my back yard. I think they may have a nest nearby.
So that’s all I had to report. Pretty slim pickings in the back yard on Saturday. But if it wasn’t for the fact that I really wanted to report my sightings, I wouldn’t have been there, either. So I really can’t blame the birds.
So again this week, nothing new to report.
I did see a great blue heron, but that was not in my back yard. That was flying across the 103 around Italy Cross. So my overall bird spotting tally did go up by one. Just not my back yard list.
And I still haven’t spotted a hummingbird yet, although I have seen reports from the general area. But I can’t really blame them for not dropping by. If we can just turn up the temperature by a few degrees, maybe that will encourage them. Of course, it will probably encourage the black flies, too. I can live without that part.
