Here at the station, we thought it was pretty amusing that some was pretending to be Mike and trying to scam personal information out of people. Not that we think stealing personal information from people is funny. But the idea of someone pretending to be one of us seems pretty amusing in some ways.
Hopefully no one went near that post. But there are plenty of scams out there to choose from, and they seem to be ramping up. I guess the scammers need money for Christmas, too.
Unfortunately, some of them seem pretty realistic, and they must be able to find a few people to fall for these things or they wouldn’t keep doing them.
There are certainly plenty to chose from and new ones popping up all the time. It almost is enough to make me wish for an email from my old buddy, the Nigerian prince. I had a roommate in university who was an actual Nigerian prince. I used to email back, asking if they knew him but never got a response, It almost made me think the email wasn’t from a real prince after all.
I used to actually used to enjoy some of the phone calls. Playing games with he people who called or pretty much insulting them until they got mad and hung up. I really used to enjoy asking if their mother was proud of their choice of career as a thief. That used to get some truly choice responses.
But the automated calls aren’t nearly as much fun. There’s not much to do except simply hang up. I’m certainly not pushing the button to talk to them. Although I may actually be ignoring real phone messages in some cases, but unless it’s someone I know, I probably won’t call back. Which is sad in some ways.
But there are plenty of scams out there. Be careful. Don’t give personal information to anyone for any reason. And always remember, if it seems to good to be true, it most likely is.
