Last week, during one of his weekly press conferences, Premier MacNeil was taken to task for not doing enough to ensure people are doing their fourteen day isolation if they come from outside Atlantic Canada.
I’m not sure how he is totally responsible for that. Not like he can sit a guard every single one of these people. And really, I guess the key part is that people are required to self isolate. That self word would indicate there is a certain amount of personal responsibility involved.
Not everyone is responsible, but most are. I know a few who are quite happily self isolating, spending two weeks entirely by themselves so they will late be able to enjoy Nova Scotia.
I have family who were not planning to come this summer. Moving anywhere around the country was a risk they were not going to take. But as things calmed a bit, they felt they could make the trek and make arrangements to have supplies delivered to their summer home in a way that kept everyone safe, and the two week isolation seemed to be a good trade off. So they are here, waiting to be allowed to roam around.
My grandson also arrived from British Columbia. He is currently in self isolation. I’m currently building a slingshot. A big slingshot. So I can send him food from a distance. I really look forward to seeing him… in two weeks. In the meantime, I will content myself with flinging supplies in his general direction and running away.
But I know there are a few. Those people who think rules don’t apply to them, or that the virus thing isn’t real or whatever the reason, will just refuse to take the proper precautions. For those people, just report them. Shaming isn’t the way to go. A hefty fine could make them think twice.
In the meantime, I will sit and wait for family members to finish their time in isolation. I want to see them and spend time with them, but I’m willing to wait for the good of everyone.
