It’s Official

The time has come. It’s officially winter. The winter solstice has happened.

Now, I will say I do not celebrate Yule or any other marking of the winter solstice. But I do like to see the time pass. It just means we have made it to the other side.

I know it will continue to be cold for the next few months. I will still be paying to heat the house and all those sort of good things. But it will start to get lighter.

I don’t really like getting up in the dark and driving home in the dark and doing just about everything in the dark. I like the dark, but it is nice to see the light most days. And this time of year, there are days when even the light is dark. Or it seems that way.

But now it will start to get lighter. It will start slow, but it will start. Eventually, the days will get noticeably longer. And it won’t take too long. Once we get past the shortest day of the year. Which would be today. But by mid-January, there will be a difference we can see as the days get longer.

So it all gets better from here. Well, it gets lighter anyway. And I’m looking forward to it.
