Jacob Newcombe to make season debut for Eagles after cancer treatments

Hollywood may not have a better script for Jacob Newcombe’s return to the ice.

The 19-year old will make his season debut with the Cape Breton Eagles Thursday night.

He went through treatments for non-Hodgkins Lymphoma after being diagnosed in August.

Newcombe says it’s great to be getting back to the game he loves.

“It’s difficult getting the news, and it’s hard to go through that. You know you’re missing out too on the hockey side of things, so I’m excited to be back,” Newcombe told reporters Wednesday.

The game is at home, and against his former team from Chicoutimi.

It’s also Hockey Fights Cancer night at Centre 200.

He says the support has been incredible.

“I’m thankful for everyone that reached out and supported me the last few months. It made things easier, and I’m grateful to have that support.”
