John McGee To Run For Lunenburg Mayor

With an election for six council seats and mayor set for this fall, we have our first mayoral candidate, John Mcgee.

McGee has served as a councillor for twelve years. In a release, he described some of his proudest accomplishments in that time “I see many concrete examples of good stewardship from Council over the last 12 years and before. Getting the new school here was a major challenge that had dire consequences if we had failed. The repurposing of the Lunenburg Academy, a new water treatment plant, reorganizing the Electric Utility and
solving our wastewater issues stand out for me.”

McGee is also an active member of various local organizations. He is credited with starting many community functions such as the Rotary
Club, the Community Christmas Dinner and the Lunenburg Youth Club. He’s also the official Town Crier.

He also laid out some issues he considers most pressing “There’s a long list of issues that need to be discussed. Housing, ageing population and infrastructure, AirBnB, downtown parking, waste management and our doctor shortage just to name a few.”

Municipal Election Returning Officer Patrick Burke tells us he has not yet received any official nomination documents but that is unsurprising as the deadline is not until September.
