A forest fire in Jordan Bay is not expected to grow any larger, according to an official with the Department of Lands and Forestry.
The fire off of the Lake Rodney Road remains at 15 hectares after it began burning Sunday.
Twelve lands and forestry firefighters from Shelburne, Queens and Yarmouth are on the ground patrolling the site and are expected to have it under control this afternoon.
Scott Tingley says the fire it currently being held but they’re trying to get around the entire perimeter before classifying it as contained.
He says it’s a challenging situation.
“The fire is in an area of rugged terrain in an area that hasn’t really received any significant rain for over a month, so it is burning as much as two feet in some hot spots.”
A helicopter was also assisting this morning but was scheduled to be released this afternoon.
Tingley says firefighters will be back on scene tomorrow too.
Conservation officers with the Department of Environment are investigating the cause.
