I’ll admit, I have not played Wordle. I may be one of the few who haven’t, judging from the number of people I see bragging that they have solved the puzzle for the day. I just haven’t gotten into it. Although the story behind it seems rather interesting.
For those who haven’t tried it yet, you have a limited number of tries to guess a five letter word. It’s challenging yet simple.
It starts with a software engineer by the name of Josh Wardle. He knew his partner really liked word games, so he came up with a word game for her to play. The two of them played the game for a while, then started inviting family to join in. And it started to take off. Since November it has exploded around the world.
There’s a lot to like about it. You only get one word per day, so even those who seem obsessed by it can’t spend all day staring at their screens wandering into traffic and bumping into poles. You do the one puzzle for the day and your done. Until the next day.
And there are no pop-ups and requests for data. It’s a very simple site. You just guess the word. That’s it.
The story of creating the game for your significant other, simply for her entertainment, is almost worthy of a Hallmark movie. I’m surprised they haven’t done it yet.
I haven’t gotten into the game yet. I may as it slowly takes over the world. But I do like the story behind it. I was starting to find all the notices from friends who had solved the puzzle for the day getting a bit annoying, but just discovering the story behind the game has made me appreciate it more. And the fact it was created just for the fun of it. Although I’m sure that will change.
In the meantime, if you’re playing, have fun with it. I’ll try not to let your little blocks annoy me.
