Knitting Group Looking for New Members

A local knitting and crochet group is looking for new members.

The Clickety Clack Knitters was started by Valerie Hennigar, who lives in Bridgewater. She moved back home to Nova Scotia two years ago after living in Ontario for a number of years, and wanted to continue sharing her passion for knitting and crocheting with others.

While living in Ottawa she had volunteered at a senior’s centre teaching knitting and crochet and wanted to do the same in Bridgewater. She was surprised to learn that there wasn’t a senior’s centre in town. She approached the town with her idea and they were happy to support her with a space to use.

“Senior’s centres are so important and there isn’t one here, which is very sad because this is a town full of seniors. Maybe that is something for the future I could get involved with,” she said.

Although many of the group members are senior women Hennigar says anyone can join in regardless of age or gender.

Supplies and wool are available for those who don’t have their own and they do ask for a small fee of $10 per term. Usually there are only three terms but they have been allowed to have a summer session this year.

Hennigar says she finds she enjoys the camaraderie of the group.

“It give’s me something to do, and gets me our and meeting people which is important,” she said.

So whether you are looking for companionship or a new hobby this group could be for you.

The group meets at the DesBrisay Museum from 1-3 PM on Tuesday and Friday afternoons.
