Large fire underway in Chester Basin

Over 15 fire departments have been called to a fire in Chester Grant.

Reports indicate that the fire involves both buildings and some of the surrounding wooded areas.

The fire is near Highway 12 and residents from the area have reported dark smoke can be seen as far as 10 kilometres away. RCMP Cpl Guilleme Tremblay says Highway 12 remains open but says traffic is slow in the area. He indicated that normal traffic should resume sometime early Monday evening.

Chester Basin Fire Department was unable to provide specifics on the whereabouts of the fire as they are still actively fighting the fire. (As of 3:00 p.m.).
