Live grenade in Sydney, Cape Breton, disposed of: Cape Breton Police

A live grenade that caused evacuations in northeastern Cape Breton, Wednesday, has been safely disposed of.

It was around 8:30 a.m., when police got a call about a suspicious item in a building on a property on Pitt Street. The address is for the Ideal Car Care Centre.

An emergency alert was issued.

In a media release, Wednesday evening, police keep details few but say the military’s bomb squad dealt with the situation.

“Evacuations have been lifted and the area has reopened to public access,” says police.
