Local axe-throwers heading to worlds in England

A number of axe-throwers from our region are heading to the world championships.

Twelve from the Wild AXE league in Barrington will be on their way to England this weekend.

Long-time competitor Darren Hudson says it’s a great team.

“In the women’s category, I’d say we have the strongest per-capita team in the world. We’re looking strong on the men’s side too, everything is looking good,” said Hudson.

The world championships were held in Barrington two years ago, and Hudson says it sparked a lot of local interest.

He says they’ve had a lot of support from the community, and are looking forward to the competition.

“We had some fundraisers, and raised awareness. It was a chance for people to say hi to our athletes as we chase our passion.”

There are also axe-throwers from New Germany and Halifax taking part.
